As we enter 2026, the Hong Kong affluent class starts a new page in their wealth roadmap. According to the latest HSBC Affluent Survey, the interviewed Hong Kong millionaires become multi-millionaires at the average age of 39, and it typically takes 8 years for millionaires to grow their assets to become multi-millionaires.
On average, there is 1 multi-millionaire in every 13 Hong Kong residents.

Placing money in the investment market is expected to yield a higher return. 86% agreed that income resources no longer relies solely on renting out properties

45% only engage in single investments like fixed deposits. Respondents have indicated their returns in 2024 underperformed the market index.

‘Cash is no longer king’, 47% respondents ⁠missed out on the potential return from the stock market rebound, and 73% indicated that cash returns cannot outpace inflation.

79% are looking for more ways to diversify investment, to enhance stability of their passive income in preparation for their retirement reserve.

* Findings are based on the results of the ‘HSBC Affluent Survey’, conducted online in November 2025. The survey engaged 2,018 Hong Kong residents aged 25 to 64. The research was structured in two phases:
1. 1,000 respondents without applying any asset-based criteria were interviewed to assess the proportion of multi-millionaires within the 25–64 age group in Hong Kong.
2. 1,018 respondents with HK$1 million or above in liquid assets were interviewed to understand the wealth management behaviors and attitudes among millionaires and multi-millionaires.
